Sal Zo was born in Italy in 1981. When he was five years-old he settled in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. Growing up, he was always surrounded by funny people. Sal is the middle child, he has an older sister and younger brother. He remembers himself as being the jokester. He shared that he had funny uncles and friends that always kept him laughing when he was a kid.

Growing up in the 90s, Sal recalls thinking about the future, he thought the only thing that might change would be cars. Sal remembers saying, “By the time I drive there might be flying cars!”, chuckling.

Communication, like cell phones or social media, never crossed his mind as a kid. Sal remembers his dad buying a TV when they moved to Bensonhurst in 1986. The first thing he saw when he turned on the television was a Met game. He became an instant fan.

Sal describes the neighborhood he lived in as being fantastic.

“I would sit outside on our stoop with my family and friends from the block, and we would make jokes back-and-forth. We would go on all day, and it would be fun being in each other's company. Things were a lot easier back then.”

Sal combines his upbringing and Italian culture in his comedy. Sebastian Maniscalco has a massive influence on his style and has been inspired by the way Maniscalco connects with his audience through shared experiences.

In March 2020, Sal downloaded TikTok and began watching videos. The clips put a smile on his face.

“We were at the start of the pandemic; all of a sudden, I found myself creating my own videos.”

In Sal's videos he talks about the freestyle music of the 90’s and artists like Judy Torres and Little Suzy. He also talks about movies, technology, his neighborhood and kicking it with girls, specifically Maria, the fictional muse of the TKA smash hit of the same name. Many of his followers love his videos because they can relate and get a good laugh!

By Sal using social media as a platform, he can reach people that would be impossible to reach during the pandemic. “I feel that the internet is the perfect platform for my comedy, but I would love to get on stage one day and entertain.

He also realizes that he must stay consistent. Sal added,

“When you use social media sometimes you feel like you have to post videos, which can get a bit stressful constantly.”

Sal is always drawing from experiences past and present to create new material. Sal does not want to lose followers. He wants to reach as many people as possible, especially during this difficult time.

Spreading smiles, and laughs is his mission!
