LAELA GIOVANNA

Laela Giovanna is a singer/songwriter and producer. She grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia. As a kid, Laela was very shy, having to socialize in school and make friends with the other kids always gave her a lot of anxiety.

“I kept to myself most of the time and would just observe my surroundings, kind of like a fly on the wall. Music became my outlet, my saving grace you could say. I think it really allowed me to express the inexpressible. It has always been my passion so being able to make it a career now is a blessing.”

Laela has been singing for as long as she could remember. She started playing the keyboard when she was about six years old. She learned guitar when she was twelve, which sparked her love for songwriting. In high school, Laela started performing original songs at live shows. Whether it was a venue, restaurant, bar, or coffee shop, she played where she could.

“It gave me the opportunity to hone my music and performance skills. I believe those years helped to mold me into the artist I am today.”

Four years ago Laela decided to move to New York City pursue her music career. She describes her music as “introspective and intimate.”

“It feels natural for me to keep the production element of my music simple and laid back. I like to blend elements of my acoustic, pop, and soul influences. I try not put myself in a box. I just create what feels natural at that given moment.”

When Laela released Nightlight it made her feel great about her music career. That song holds such a special place in her heart. She co-wrote it with her former vocal coach Melissa Daley. They started writing it on guitar, then collaborated with their producer friend Nick Passio and it turned into a full track. She recently released the music video for the song back in October.

“The creation of the song, video, and release has been a few years in the making. Everything happened at the right time. We didn’t force anything and that’s what I love about it.”

Laela draws a lot of musical inspiration from different genres and artists. Her top five inspirations are Alicia Keys, Tori Kelly, Miguel, James Arthur and Amy Whinehouse. Laela would love to work with those artists in the future.
